New York and Buenos Aires
The adventure is on! After a solid 30 hours of traveling we made it to the other side of the world. The plane to New York JFK was smooth and filled with B-movies. After a quick chat with a cheerful U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officer we made our way into New York. With a layover of about 8 hours we were determined to make the most of it. We grabbed the train from the airport to Penn Station. From here we walked by the Flatiron Building at Madison Square Park, had a quick look at the Chrysler Building and walked past Trump Tower on our way to Central Park. After a quick walk along the edge of the park we had to start our retreat back to Penn Station. On our way back to the station we grabbed a burger which we ate while crossing Times Square. Seemed like the most American thing we could do. After our speedy tour of New York City we hurried back to the airport and prepared ourselves for the last leg of our travel towards Argentina. Some 11 hours of back breaking, leg numbing semi-sleeping. But well, it’s all a part of the experience.
Landing in Argentina and getting through passport control was a straightforward and relatively pleasant experience. We had arranged for a car to pick us up at the airport and bring us to the hotel. After about 10 minutes of driving we ended up in the emergency lane with a flat tire. I told you, the adventure is on! After a wheel change that would make any F1 pit crew jealous, we were back on the road.
After dropping our bags at the hotel we went for a walk around Buenos Aires to get a feeling for the place. The temperature this time of year is very pleasant and lends itself very well to taking a well-deserved break under a tree in one of Buenos Aires' beautiful parks. As the outdoor people we are, we of course found our way to the Buenos Aires Ecological Reserve. An absolutely fantastic place surrounded by the bustling inner city. No wonder that this is a favorite place among the locals. Walking the paths through the reserve we encountered a wide range of beautiful birds and a few reptiles chilling in the sun.
Tomorrow is a new adventure!
